Specular

Leveraging automated feature extraction via SURF and the Voronoi graph, this algorithm renders two layers of circles (each layer containing up to 50 sub-layers).

The first layer expands each circle up to 10x it's original size and acts as a filling algorithm, provigin a solid background for the picture.

On top of this a much larger number of smaller detailed circles are applied at very specific positions, these are pulled direct from the feature set and not adjusted.

The resulting image can seem both abstract but also recognisable and familiar.

FAQ

Can this exact image be re-produced? No, whilst the features can be extracted in similar places we cannot replicate the exact positioning, sizing and colouring of the circles.

Are there any other images on this website that were generated by this algorithm? The underlying voronoi graph is used by many other algorithms on this website, however the rendering of layered circles in combination with the auto-extracted features is unique to this algorithm. One other series Sunrise applies this exact algorithm to a different set of images, that however is a limited edition print run.
